INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE OF MEDICAL TOURISM AND LESSONS FOR UKRAINE

Abstract

The article reveals the essence and current trends of medical tourism as a complex and multidimensional phenomenon. It offers a perspective on medical tourism as one of the dynamically growing sectors of the global economy and a component of a successful economic development and modernization policy. It is emphasized that medical tourism combines social, economic, and legal dimensions. The article shows that the growing demand for medical tourism is driven by two main factors: the search for more affordable and high-quality treatment, and the implementation of individualized strategies for improving health and pursuing aesthetic self-improvement – lysis of Singapore’s successful experience as a country that has transformed itself into a global medical hub through effective public administration and legal frameworks, high educational standards, innovation development, disciplined legal regulation, and international accreditation of medical institutions. The example of Canada is also examined, where the combination of a universal healthcare system, technological modernization, and geographic proximity to the United States creates additional opportunities for medical tourism. The article outlines that the successful development of medical tourism results from the interaction between education, science, the legal system, an innovative economy, and public policy. For Ukraine, once it reaches the stage of post-war recovery, applying the best global practices in this field may become an instrument of modernization, increased investment attractiveness, and enhanced competitiveness in the international service market. At the same time, the article highlights the risks of excessive commercialization of healthcare and the need to ensure a balance between economic benefits and social guarantees for citizens.
