TAXONOMIC APPROACH FOR DETERMINING THE PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCES OF LAW SCHOOL GRADUATES

Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the taxonomic approach to assessing the level of knowledge of students of higher legal education. Based on the example of the "Labor Law of Ukraine" it is analyzed the approach to determining the minimum required level of professional competences that a law student must acquire during his study. It was concluded that the taxonomic approach to assessing the level of professional training of law students, which is defined in the program of unified state qualification exam, helps a teacher staff to "identify" the level of professional training required by this program from a law school’s graduate. Therefore the taxonomic approach to the program’s content of USQE allows to determine the minimum necessary professional competences of a law graduate in a specific academic disciplines. There is emphasized in the article that the main task of professional training of lawyers should be the formation of the minimum required professional competences by students. These competences indicate that students have the ability to create norms, and/or apply the law, and/or interpret the norms of the law based on an understanding of true content, the idea of law and its role in social life. It is argued that higher legal education is only a potential means that can open the way to legal professions, in case the student successfully acquires the minimum necessary professional competencies, development of professional thinking, and creating a professional outlook in combination with voluntary actions about continuous professional development. It is argued that the development of legal education is inevitably connected with the renewal of approaches to the training of legal students in law schools in order to improve the quality of professional legal personnel in Ukraine. In turn, the quality level of training of law students has a significant importance for the further development of Ukraine as a democratic, legal, and social state.
