DEVELOPMENT OF THE INSTITUTE OF THE ACADEMIC INTEGRITY THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL LAW FUNCTION

Abstract

There is argued the inextricable connection between academic integrity and the general level of culture and intellectual development in the article. The attention is paid to the cultural and educational function of law as one of the legal instruments for the development of academic integrity in Ukraine. There are concluded that: academic integrity as a social phenomenon allows to form in the individual stable skills of critical thinking, the ability to form their own opinion. Due to acquiring general and professional competencies in compliance with the requirements of academic integrity, the individual is forming a high level of culture, intellectual development and professional skills; academic integrity as an institution in the modern educational environment already has the necessary basic level of regulation at the national and local levels, which provides the opportunity for its further development as a valuable component of the educational process; in its essence, it is impossible and not necessary to standardize all aspects of academic integrity, because the implementation of virtuous behavior is carried out through honest work, respect for others’ work, the inadmissibility of deception, etc.; the development of academic integrity is inextricably connected with the regulatory improvement of this institution, as the rules governing the conditions of academic integrity reveal the possibility of influencing the will and consciousness of participants in the educational process through cultural and educational function of law; the cultural and educational function of norms of academic integrity opens up legal possibilities to consolidate the value orientation of the educational process in accordance with the progressive generally recognized results of civilization, where legally significant behavior of participants in the educational process meets the needs of society; the cultural and educational function of the norms of academic integrity is able to form by young children, as participants in the educational process, the necessary views and attitudes about behavior in the learning process; the development of academic integrity in Ukraine on the basis of a functional approach to its improvement in the legal field requires a systematic approach, which is not limited to identifying types of violations of academic integrity and responsibility for such violations, but also requires formation a system of norms and standards in education. They could allow to build the educational process in such way to prevent the possibility of resorting to dishonest behavior, in particular it concerns the issue to organize the independent work of students and the types of learning for them.
